  • Does the software need to be compatible with key suppliers?
  • What processes are currently being done outside the system?
  • Gauge the staff experiences, frustrations if any! staff experience and competencies

Considering Upgrading or Purchasing new software

  • Look inside your business to identify core needs, and nice to haves
  • Do some market research by reading customer testimonials - success stories.
  • Develop short list from evaluation criteria and arrange site visits through software vendors.
  • Consider the relationship with the software support team - are they a good fit for your business?

  8. Multi User - what are the limits on number of users accessing the system at any one time?

  11. Platform that the software runs on - What hardware is required?
  12. Drilldown ability from top level data to transactions
  13. Depth of analysis? - eg What backorders are outstanding by product / Customer? - eg Debts outstanding across locations by Customer
  14. Flexibility for Month end close / year end rollovers
  15. Rented software ("Software as a Service") vs Outright capital purchase?
  16. Online access - Broadband internet & Telco costs for access, reliability
  17. Data Backup
  18. Integrity of data storage, How easy is it to export raw data for further analysis?
  19. Support - Availability & cost of urgent support for problem solving?
  20. Training - during implementation.
